BRAZIL – Coffee exports grew by 43% in September

SAO PAULO – Brazilian exports of coffee amounted to US$ 582.3 million in September, up 42.9% from the same month last year, according to information released this Wednesday (8th) by the Brazilian Coffee Exporter Council (Cecafé, in the Portuguese acronym). Brazil exported 2.94 million 60-kilogram bags, an increase of 7.8% in the same comparison.
Year-to-date through September, foreign sales grossed US$ 4.63 billion, up 17.9% from the same period in 2013. A total of 26.64 million bags were sold, up 17.2% in the same comparison.
“Brazil enjoys a highly expressive level of exports, even in a period of frequent price volatility,” said the CEO of Cecafé, Guilherme Braga, according to a press release from the organisation.
Brazilian exports to Arab countries grossed US$ 147.7 million year-to-date through September, down 11% from the same period last year. Brazil exported 1.05 million bags, an increase of 1% in the same comparison.
Leading export targets for Brazilian coffee were Europe, which accounted for 54% of the exports from January through September; North America, with 25%; and Asia, with 15%. As regards countries, leading markets include the United States, Germany, Italy, Belgium and Japan.
Green coffee of the Arabica variety accounts for 81.4% of Brazilian exports; soluble coffee, for 10%; Robusta variety, for 8.5%; and roasted and ground coffee, for meagre 0.1%.
