MILAN – Coffee exports from Brazil surged 21% in June, the country’s national coffee council, or Cecafe reported on Tuesday. Shipments rose to 2.858 million bags, up 21.9% on year, earning US$539.784 million, or a 37.3% increase in value terms year-on-year.
Coffee exports between July 2013 and June 2014 showed a 9.9% increase to 33.97 million bags far above Cecafe expectations of 32.5 million bags. On the other hand, export earnings fell 11.6% compared to previous comparable period to about US$6 billion.
In other news, Cooparaiso, which represents about 3,200 coffee growers, mainly in the southern and southwestern parts of Minas Gerais, has cut its forecast for the 2014/15 coffee crop to 2.4 million bags, from 2.9 million bags in 2013/14. Forecasts for Brazil’s harvest range from about 45 million bags to about 50 million bags.
