SHANGHAI, People’s Republic of China – Carioca Coffee is a brand of products designed with Chinese consumers in mind that will be sold only in Asia, businessman Leonardo Scarpelli, one of the owners of trading company Meeet, established in Shanghai told Brazilian newspaper O Globo.

The businessman said that the objective is to place Brazilian products in the second largest economy in the world and sell them in cafes, which will serve as places to exhibit the brand, the first of which is already in operation in a prime Shanghai location.

In business for 12 months, Carioca Coffee has four varieties of ground roasted coffee and beans – Sunset Orange (withan image of the Rio de Janeiro sunset), Amazon Green, Samba Red and Brazil Yellow (in reference to football, with the Brazilian national team shirt) – already in 22 cities.

Scarpelli said that placing the products with the consumer involves the largest network of imported product supermarkets in China, shops on major e-commerce platforms and networks of hotels, restaurants and other similar establishments.

“After we have placed more than 20 tonnes of coffee in China we intend in this half of the year to start marketing the brand’s chocolates,” said the businessman, noted that economic feasibility studies for the brand began in 2014, years before they were launched on the market.

Scarpelli, whose partners in the business are entrepreneurs Luiz Fernando de Mello and Mário de Melo Botelho, also told the newspaper that the company’s strategy is totally focused on the Chinese market and it does not intend to sell anything in Brazil.
