In October, Brazil exported 3.3 million bags of coffee. The volume was the highest monthly amount this year. The data is from the Agricultural Policy Secretariat (SPA), the Ministry of Agriculture.

In the balance of the year, between January and October, it was exported 27.8 million bags that generated about $4.3 billion of foreign exchange earnings.

This amount represents 5.9% of total revenue from exports of Brazilian agribusiness and positions the coffee in the fifth placethe ranking of foreign exchange revenue from exports of agribusiness products.

The first was the soy complex – with US $ 24.2 billion; and the second, meat – to $ 11.9 billion. The sugar and alcohol is third – to $ 9 billion; and forest products, in fourth – with $ 8.4 billion. The Brazilian agribusiness exports generated US $ 73.1 billion in this period.

Gross Production Value

The Secretariat of Agricultural Policy  also released the Gross Value of Production (GVP) of October, which estimates that the average gross income of coffee farmers will be R $ 23.64 billion in 2016.

Compared to the 2015 harvest whose VBP was estimated at R $ 20.67 billion, we find that the harvest this year 2016, if confirmed, would represent a revenue increase of around 14%.

In this case, coffee is the seventh product in the ranking of VBP in 2016 and accounted for approximately 4.6% of the Gross Value of the total production of the agricultural sector in Brazil, according to the map, is expected to reach around R $ 519.3 billion this year.

For coffee, the VBP is calculated based on the production of the harvest by reference to the average price received by producers based on data from the Getúlio Vargas Foundation (FGV), Center for Advanced Studies in Applied Economics.
