MILAN – Coffee exports from Brazil fell sharply during the month of July according to the country’s Council of Coffee Exporters, or CECAFÉ. Shipments of coffee in all forms out of Brazil totalled 1,908,808 bags, down 33.7 percent on year, the Council reported in its monthly report.
Exports of green coffee dropped by 36.8 percent to 1,610,824 bags. Shipments of Arabica and Robusta were down 26.3 percent and 90.9 percent respectively.
Exports of processed coffee (mostly soluble) fell 10.3 percent to 297,984 bags.
During the January-July period, Brazil exported a total of 18,188,838 bags of coffee in all form down 11.9 percent on year.
Green coffee exports amounted to 16,047,367 bags, marking a 13.5 percent decrease year-on-year. Exports of processed coffee rose to 2,141,471 bags, up 2.7 percent on year.
USA, Germany and Japan were the main destinations, with volumes of 4,320,619 (-19.93 percent), 3,727,693 (-9.54 percent) and 1,389,831 (+0.59 percent) bags respectively.
The input flow of the new crop on the market was slower than expected and stocks are low, which is impacting exports, “CECAFÉ’s President Nelson Carvalhaes said in a note.
