SÃO PAULO, Brazil – The first half of the year saw 872,620 60-kg bags of coffee shipped from Brazil to Arab countries, up 54% year-on-year. Sales fetched USD 102 million, up 17.7% year-on-year, the Brazilian Coffee Exporters Council ( Cecafé ) reported this Monday (8).
The share of Brazilian coffee exports taken in by Arab countries climbed from 3.9% in H1 2018 to 4.3% in H1 2019. Cecafé said total exports from Brazil amounted to 20 million bags, up 37.4% year-on-year, an all-time high for an H1. Here, exports fetched USD 2.5 billion, up 10.5%, with average price per bag sliding 19.6%, according to Cecafé.
For the 2018/2019 crop-year ended June, exports came out to 30.5 million bags, up 35% and another all-time high. Sales grossed USD 5.3 billion, up 9.8%, with average prices dropping 18.7%.
Top H1 and crop-year markets were United States, Germany, Italy, Japan, Belgium, UK, Turkey, Russia, Canada and Spain.
Coffee exports in June
In June alone, coffee exports hit USD 340.3 million, up 11% year-on-year at 2.9 million bags shipped, up 12% year-on-year and the biggest volume for a June in five years, Cecafé reported. Average price dropped by 20.5%.
