SÃO PAULO – Brazilian coffee exports to the Arab countries increased 6% from January to October of this year, according to data released by the Brazilian Coffee Exporters Council (CeCafé) this Tuesday (10th).

The increase refers to revenues of USD 175.2 million obtained in the ten first months of 2015 over the USD 165.7 million registered in the same period of 2014.

There was also an increase in volume shipped, but of only 1%. Year-to-date until October, Brazil’s coffee industry exported 1.17 million of 60 kg bags to the Arab countries against 1.16 million bags in the same months of last year.

The smaller increase of volume compared to revenues means that the coffee was traded with a higher price.

Overall, coffee exports in the year declined 4.7% in revenues and 0.7% in volume, with USD 5 billion and 29.8 million bags, respectively.

Europe is the world’s leading buyer of Brazilian coffee and it remained so from January to October.

The region accounted for 53% of the total, followed by North America, which bought 26%, and by Asia with 16%. From the total that Brazil exported, 90.3% was of green coffee, with 9.7% of processed coffee.

Year-to-year ending in October, exports stand beyond 36 million bags, which is within the target set by CeCafé for exports volume for 2015. In all, 36.2 million bags were shipped from November 2014 to October 2015, with revenues at 6.3 billion.

In October alone, exports dropped 3.9% over the same month of last year, with 3.2 million bags. Revenues dropped even more, 29.1% with USD 487.4 million. The average price of the bag declined 26.2%.
