MILAN – Brazilian coffee exports saw record volumes and revenues in November, as shown in Cecafé ’s freshly released monthly statistics. Last month, Brazil exported 4.662 million bags of all forms of coffee, an increase of 5.4% compared to a year ago. This brings the total from January to November to 46.399 million bags: 3.78% more than for the whole of the 2023 calendar year. In November alone, exports earnings rose by 62.7% to $1.343 billion.
Despite these unprecedented results, Brazilian trade continues to face a difficult reality marked by logistical problems, which continue to cause delays and additional costs.
In November, Brazil exported – as mentioned above – 4,661,838 bags of coffee in all forms. Exports of green coffee totalled 4,292,580 bags (+2.7%), of which 3,578,374 were Arabica (+9.1%).
The positive trend for Robusta coffee came to a halt, with shipments falling by 20.8% to 714,206 bags. On the other hand, exports of processed coffee rose by 52.9% to 369,258 bags, mostly soluble coffee.
Exports for the first 11 months of the calendar year 2024 increased by almost a third (+32.2%) to an unprecedented 46,399,004 bags. Export earnings also soared, growing 56% to the also historic figure of $11.3 billion.
Arabica volumes (+23.2%) were close to 34 million bags (33,972,909), while Robusta volumes more than doubled (+107.4%) year-on-year to 8,692,421 bags. Sales abroad of processed coffee amounted to 3,733,674 bags, an increase of 11.9%.
Shipments to almost all major countries of destination grew strongly, starting with the USA (+35%) and Germany (+63.4%). Exports to Belgium more than doubled (+108.07%) to almost 4.1 million bags.
There were also significant increases in exports to Italy (+28.7%), Spain, Holland, Turkey, Mexico and the Russian Federation, while exports to Japan fell slightly.
Antwerp (Belgium) was the main port of destination ahead of Hamburg and Bremen, New Orleans and Genoa.
