GLASGOW, UK – Sons of Amazon, UK’s strongest brew is launching from Clydebank. Created by two Glasgow-based foodies – Eric Witham, with a background in whisky brands and Marco Giambastani, the man behind Italian Aroma Coffee – the ethical cuppa’s main selling point is that it has 200% more caffeine than your average jar coffee.
There’s even a warning label on the website, not to mention the biker-heavy marketing on the bag. Gulp. Tiny, tiny gulp.
Co-owner Eric Witham told Glasgow Live: “We’re trying to educate people that it’s an acquired taste, like a 25 year old single malt, and it should be appreciated like it.”
To give you just an idea of the potency of the stuff, a cup of Sons of Amazon packs around 440mg of caffeine – compare that to a can of Coca Cola, with just 22.4mg, or even Red Bull, at 75.7mg, and you’ll realise how strong we’re talking.
Of course, coffee fans will still be tempted to try it – and we have to say, it’s a pretty smooth, tasty cup of coffee.
The jitters do set in though – so be warned, if you’re not a big coffee drinker. And maybe don’t operate heavy machinery in the hours afterwards.
Sons of Amazon have been developing their Brazilian bean blend for 18 months, roasting it the maximum caffeine levels.
But there’s an emphasis on fair trade too, as the beans are purchased through the Rainforest Alliance and coffee farmers are paid more than a living wage – good to know if you’re a keen coffee drinker.
You can head to the Sons of Amazon website for more info or to give it a try.
