As much as 96.5 percent of Italians between the ages 18 and 65 drink coffee making java the “National Drink of Italians”, says a study by Astra Ricerche conducted for the Coffee Promotion consortium and released on Tuesday at the launch of the Coffe Break Festival in Florence.
According to the research, Italian coffee consumers can be divided into three categories: weak, one to two cups daily (36%), medium, two to three cups daily (36%) and heavy, more than three cups daily (27%).
The study also reveals that 89 percent of consumers drink coffee at home and 75% in a bar.
More than half of people surveyed said they would never give up their cuppa.
