LUANDA – The director of the National Coffee Institute (INCA), João Ferreira Neto, last Saturday in Luanda defended that coffee production in the country must undergo a strong mechanisation process, coupled with a greater redistribution of the investment in agricultural products used as staple diets and those seen as exportable goods, so as to enable the acquisition of foreign currency for the country.
With a present coffee production of 12,000 tons a year, INCA defends that with a good investment, within the next four to five years it will be possible to get to 50,000 tons or more.
João Ferreira Neto went on to stress that a strong mechanisation of coffee production would also mean a greater expansion of this agricultural activity and, consequently, the boosting of production.
Currently, coffee in Angola, is mainly produced in the provinces of Uige (north) and Cuanza Sul (centre-west), however, ANGOP has learnt that the production of this product will soon reach the central provinces of Huambo and Bié.
