BOGOTA, Colombia – Coffee production in Colombia, the world’s largest producer of mild washed Arabica coffee, fell 6% in May to 1.1 million 60-kg bags from 1.2 million bags harvested in the same month of 2018. So far this year (January-May), coffee production remained almost stable, with 5.5 million bags compared to 5.4 million in the same previous period.
In the last 12 months (June 2018-May 2019), coffee production closed at 13.6 million bags, 5.1% down from the 14.3 million produced in the same previous period.
And so far this coffee year (October 2018-May 2019), 9.1 million bags were harvested, 2.5% down from 9.4 million bags in the same previous period.
Exports grow 7.6% in May and so far this year
Colombian coffee exports grew 7.6% in May to 1 million bags from 951,000 bags sold abroad in the May 2018.
So far this year (January-May), coffee exports grew 7.6% from 5.1 million bags to 5.4 million bags of 60 kg.
In the last 12 months (June 2018-May 2019), coffee exports increased 2.4% to 13.1 million bags from 12.8 million bags in the same previous period.
And so far this coffee year (October 2018-May 2019), exports exceeded 9 million bags, 5.3% up from almost 8.6 million bags exported in the same previous period.
