MILAN – Coffee production in Colombia was up 30% in the last 12 months (June-May) reaching 11.5 million 60-kg bags, the national coffee growers’ Federation (FNC) said on Wednesday in its monthly report.
Exports rose 31% to 10.5 million bags from 8.1 million during the previous 12-month period.
During the first 5 months of the calendar year 2014, the country’s output totalled 4.6 million bags, or 600,000 bags more compared to the January-May period in 2013. Shipments reached 4.5 million bags up 23% on year.
The world’s third coffee producer produced 1.05 million 60-kg bags of coffee in May, up 12 percent from the same month last year, while exports were slightly down (-3%) to 831,000 bags.
The Federation did not give a reason for the small year-on-year decline in shipments.
FNC expects this year’s output to reach 11.4 million up from 10.9 million in 2013 and just 7.7 million bags in 2012.
