BOGOTA – During the past twelve months (June 2013-May 2014), Colombian coffee production increased significantly as a result of the improved conditions of the country’s coffee plantations.
By reaching 11.5 million 60 kilo coffee bags, Colombia’s coffee production increased 30% compared to the 8.8 million bags produced during the same period between June 2012 and May 2013.
Similarly, year to date production (January – May 2014) reached 4.6 million 60 kilo bags.
This meant an increase of 600,000 bags compared to the total number of bags produced during the same period last year.
Colombian coffee exports increased significantly
Colombian coffee exports, which supply the mounting international demand for specialty coffee, reported a considerable increase.
During the past twelve months (June 2013- May 2014), coffee exports reached 10.5 million 60 kilo bags.
This means a 31% increase compared to the 8.1 million bags exported during the same period last year.
Additionally, year to date coffee exports reached 4.5 million 60 kilo bags. This means a 23% increase compared to the period between January and May 2013.
