BOGOTA, Colombia – Colombia, the world’s leading producer of mild washed Arabica coffee, produced a total of 944,000 60-kilo bags in March 2016, an 18% increase compared to the 800,000 bags produced in March 2015.
Year-to-date production was nearly 3.2 million bags, a 9% increase compared to the 2.9 million bags produced between January and March 2015.
During the last 12 months (April 2015-March 2016), coffee production increased 17% by reaching 14,4 million 60-kilo bags. So far this coffee year (October 2015-March 2016), Colombian coffee production was 7.3 million bags, an 18% increase compared to the total bags produced between October 2014 and March 2015.
Despite these positive results, experts warn that the repercussions of El Niño on Colombian coffee growing will begin to appear in April.
Colombian Coffee Exports Increase 37% in March
Colombian coffee exports reached nearly 1.1 million 60-kilo bags in March 2016, a 37% increase compared to the 786,000 bags exported in March 2015.
Year-to-date exports were nearly 3.3 million bags, a 13% increase compared to the 2.9 million bags exported between January and March 2015.
During the last 12 months (April 2015-March 2016), coffee exports rose 19% by reaching 13.1 million 60-kilo bags.
And so far this coffee year (October 2015-March 2016), Colombian coffee exports were nearly 6.8 million bags, a 14% increase compared to the 5.9 million bags exported during the same previous period.
