BOGOTÁ, Colombia – So far this year (January-May), registered production of coffee from Colombia, the world’s largest producer of washed mild Arabica, reached 4.5 million bags, down 4% from the almost 4.7 million bags produced a year earlier. In the last 12 months (June 2021-May 2022), coffee production reached 12.4 million bags, down 10% from the 13.8 million bags produced a year ago.

In May, production exceeded one million 60-kg bags of green coffee, up 65% from the 616,000 bags produced in the same month of 2021. However, it should be noted that in May 2021 there were protests and roadblocks in the country that impacted a number of sectors, including coffee, so the production report for that month was well below historical records.

And in the coffee year (October 2021-May 2022), production slightly exceeded 8 million bags, down 11% from just over 9 million produced in the same previous period.

YTD coffee exports grow 2%

So far this year, coffee exports increased 2% to around 5 million 60-kg bags from almost 4.9 million bags sold abroad a year earlier.

In the last 12 months, exports fell 2% to 12.5 million bags from almost 12.8 million bags exported in the same previous period.

Having left behind the logistical constrains of a year ago, exports in May also registered a substantial recovery, 174%, reaching 944,000 60-kg bags of coffee compared to the 345,000 bags exported in the same month of 2021.

And in the coffee year, coffee exports exceeded 8.2 million 60-kg bags, down 3% from almost 8.5 million bags exported a year earlier.
