Colombia, the world’s leading producer of mild washed Arabica coffee, produced a total of 1,2 million 60 kilo bags in May 2015. This meant an 11% increase compared to coffee production in May 2014.

Year to date production (January-May 2015) reached 5 million bags, meaning a 9% increase compared to the 4.6 million bags produced between January and May 2014.

Similarly, production between June 2014 and May 2015 recorded a 10% increase by reaching a total of 12,5 million 60 kilo bags, in line with previously announced estimates.

This performance is the result of the crop renovation initiatives led by the Colombian Coffee Growers Federation (FNC). Since 2009, a total of 3,358 million trees have been renovated with resistant varieties that are better adapted to climate variability.

Exports

Colombian coffee exports also recorded positive growth. During May 2015, exports increased 20% by reaching a total of 1 million 60 kilo bags.

Year to date exports reached 4.9 million, meaning a 7% increase compared to the 4.5 million bags exported between January and May 2014. Similarly, during the past twelve months (June 2014-May 2015), Colombian coffee exports increased 7% by reaching a total of 10.5 million 60 kilo bags.
