BOGOTA, Colombia – Colombia, the world’s leading producer of mild washed Arabica coffee, produced 13.8 million 60 kilo bags during the past twelve months (December 2014-November 2015). This meant a 13% increase compared to the 12.2 million bags produced between December 2013 and November 2014.
Between January and November 2015, Colombian coffee production increased 15% by reaching a total of 12.7 million bags. Similarly, in November 2015, coffee production increased 19% by reaching a total of 1.3 million 60 kilo bags.
As noted in the National Congress of Coffee Growers, although Colombia has reclaimed its position as a global leader in the production of mild Arabica coffee, substantial challenges remain.
The combination of current international prices and higher production costs (as a result of the rise in fertilizer prices and wages) is significantly undermining the profitability of Colombian coffee growers.
Exports
Duringthe past twelve months, Colombian coffee exports reached more than 12.5 million 60 kilo bags. This meant a 15% increase compared to the 10.9 million bags exported during the same period of the previous year.
Year to date exports (January-November 2015) reached 11.5 million bags and increased 16%. Similarly, exports in November 2015 increased 7% by reaching a total of 10.9 million bags.
