BOGOTA – Colombia, the world’s leading producer of mild washed Arabica coffee, produced a total of 13.1 million 60 kilo bags during the past twelve months. This meant a 12% increase compared to the production recorded between August 2013 and July 2014.
Year to date production (January-July) increased 14% by reaching a total of 7.7 million 60 kilo bags. Similarly, coffee production in July reached nearly 1.5 million bags and increased 18% compared to the 1.2 million bags produced in July 2014.
The coffee crop renovation initiatives led by the Colombian Coffee Growers Federation (FNC) have led to the recovery of Colombia’s coffee production.
A total of 3,438 million trees have been renovated since 2009 (most of them with resistant varieties that are better adapted to climate variability) in 647,000 coffee growing hectares throughout Colombia.
Coffee Exports
During the past twelve months, Colombian coffee exports increased 10%, reaching a total of 11.8 million 60 kilo bags. Year to date exports reached 7.1 million bags, meaning a 14% increase compared to the 6.2 million bags exported between January and July 2014.
Similarly, coffee exports increased 35% in July 2015 by reaching 1.2 million bags.
