Colombian President Juan Manuel Santos (picture) and the National Federation of Coffee Growers met on 10 July 2016 in La Mesa, Cundinamarca, and signed a ten-year renewal of the National Coffee Fund (FONC).
The FONC finances public goods and services that benefit Colombian coffee growers, such as scientific research and technological development, technical assistance, guaranteed purchasing, as well as marketing and promotional efforts to help Colombian coffee maintain its image abroad (Diario del Huila).
Santos praised the agreement and the coffee sector’s recent exceptional results, noting the over 500,000 hectares of renovated coffee plantations and a 70 percent increase in average productivity (Diario del Huila).
The FONC receives resources through a contribution of US$0.06 per pound of exported coffe.
