MILAN – Costa Coffee, has expanded its partnership with the number one anti-food-waste app, Too Good To Go, with the offering now available at 1,100+ participating UK stores. By partnering with Too Good To Go, Costa Coffee fans will help to prevent unsold food from going to waste; from award-winning toasties, fresh salad and scrumptious sweet treats.

Costa Coffee and Too Good To Go Partnership: Here is how it works

Shoppers simply need to download the free Too Good To Go app and make their purchase, before collecting at a designated pick-up time from their chosen nearby participating store. The collection – or Magic Bag as they’re known – can consist of three or more items worth at least £10 (if purchased at full price), all reduced to the lower price of £3.

Check out these stats!

In 2018, Costa Coffee became the first large-scale UK coffee chain to partner with Too Good To Go and since then has seen an impressive 100,000 Magic Bags collected across stores. What’s more, this staggering result builds on the success that the Too Good To Go team has seen since launching the app in 2016, with their ‘Waste Warriors’ saving over 60 million meals from going to waste worldwide**.

But what does this REALLY mean? By making sure these items are not going to waste, Costa Coffee and Too Good To Go’s Waste Warriors have saved a whopping 250 tonnes of CO2 emissions which is the same as that emitted by 1,136 flights from London to Berlin!

A Costa Coffee spokesperson said: “We’re delighted to expand our partnership with Too Good To Go, offering customers the chance to purchase food that would otherwise have gone to waste. We are committed to playing our part in reducing food waste across our business and supporting the communities we operate in, whether that’s by working directly with organisations such as Too Good To Go or donating surplus food to local charities. In 2019, we also made a public commitment to reduce food waste by signing up to the Step Up to the Plate Pledge and the Food Waste Reduction Roadmap.

“It’s amazing to think that by working with Too Good to Go, we’ve saved enough CO2e emissions to charge a smartphone over 44 million times! Here’s to more amazing stats as we extend the partnership nationwide.”

Paschalis Loucaides, UK Country Manager, Too Good To Go, said: “It’s been fantastic to count Costa Coffee as one of our partners since our first pilot launched in 2018 – so far saving over 100,000 Magic Bags of food from going to waste. Now that our partnership has expanded further, our app users can rescue their delicious fresh cakes, sandwiches, pastries and salads from an additional 1,000+ Costa Coffee stores nationwide.

“Moving forward, I’m excited to see how big an impact we can have fighting food waste together so that our dream of a planet with no food waste can become reality.”
