Costa reveals almost a third of the nation is feeling more generous this Christmas

LONDON, UK – Christmas spirit is alive and well as a new survey finds that 4 in 5 of adults plan to go out of their way to be kind to others over the month of December, with almost a third (30%) of respondents feeling more generous this year compared to last year. A study of 2,000 adults reveals that the top way the nation plans to come together with loved ones in December, with a third of people surveyed (28%) treating others to festive drinks or a coffee.

More than eight in 10 UK adults think people try to be more kind to one another during the Christmas season, with the average carrying out an act of generosity at least four times a week.

The study by the Nation’s Favourite Coffee Shop, Costa Coffee, reveals a quarter (26%) of adults will attempt to go above and beyond with Christmas presents to make others feel special, while 1 in 5 will spend longer at this time of year making time to talk to those without a family, such as the elderly or those who live alone.

With over a third (35%) feeling more festive this year compared to 2020, when it comes to sharing the festive spirit with others, secretly spoiling people in the Secret Santa, going above and beyond when catering Christmas dinner for others, and paying for someone’s meal in a restaurant feature on the list. The study also finds ‘looking out for vulnerable or elderly neighbours’ and ‘singing carols in the community’ are all things people enjoy doing for others during the festive season.

To celebrate the power of random acts of kindness and spark one million conversations across the UK, Costa Coffee will be sharing the love and a little extra Christmas joy this December by giving away ONE MILLION ‘free drink’ vouchers to a selection of lucky Costa Club app members for them to share with someone via the Costa Club in-app ‘Gift a Reward’ function.

A spokesperson for Costa Coffee, which commissioned the study said: “The power of Christmas spirit is all about bringing people together, whether that be in the literal sense, or in more recent circumstances, extending a token of appreciation virtually. Costa Club app members lucky enough to receive one of the one million ‘free drink’ vouchers between Wednesday 1st December and Friday 17th December 2021 can gift the voucher to a friend, colleague or loved one to any barista-crafted Costa Coffee drink. Anyone who receives one of these special ‘free drink’ vouchers, will then have four weeks from the date the voucher is issued to redeem their free drink in participating costa coffee stores.
