SAN JOSÉ, Costa Rica – Coffee from Finca don Antonio, in Copey de Dota which is cultivated at between 1,800 to 2,200 meters above sea level, reached a record price of up to USD$8,060.00 per quintal (100 lbs or 46 kilograms) in the electronic auction organized by contest Taza de la Excelencia (Cup of Excellence), organization headquartered in Portland Oregon; while in the New York stock market the price reached $123.80 per quintal.
The auction, which included several fine Costa Rican coffees, took place June 28th starting at 7 a.m. and extended through 12 noon and was carried out by website AllianceforCoffeeExcellence.org.
The coffee bean is of the Geisha variety, and it was purchased by Japanese company Maruyama Coffee. A second lot of the same quality was valued at $8,030 a quintal and was bought by Time Club another Japanese enterprise.
The registered price was 37% higher than the number obtained by the best coffee in the same event in 2016 which closed at $5,900.00 a quintal.
In total the Cup of Excellence auctioned 29 lots all of which were quoted over $1,000.00 a quintal.

All the management of the farm is in charge of family members, who take care of every detail of the process to produce an excellent coffee.
Volcán Azul which has its production at the slopes of the Poás Volcano in Costa Rica earned the second highest price.
