DUNSTABLE, Uk —Over 240 team members from across the Costa Coffee business have taken part in the epic challenge of climbing the UK’s three highest peaks – raising over £350,000 to support children who live in coffee-growing communities across the world.
The daunting ascent started in Scotland with participants scaling Ben Nevis, followed by Scafell Pike in England and the final push taking place at the picturesque location of Snowdon in Wales.
Since it started in 2007, the Costa 3 Peaks has raised over £460,000 for The Costa Foundation, a charity that has built 580 classrooms in 84 coffee-growing communities in 10 countries, improving the lives of over 75,000 people through education
John English, Charity and Community Manager at Costa Coffee, said: “The Three Peaks Challenge is not just a popular occasion for our team members, but also for their friends, family and our supplier too. The event has now been running for 13 years and we wanted to make sure that this was the most successful to date.
“We saw one of our youngest ever climbers tackling the peaks, Mellie Cloete, who is only 10-years-old. She did amazingly well. A huge well done to all the teams that took part this year, it’s a great achievement and will really make a massive difference to so many children’s life stories, through the work of the Costa Foundation.”
Amongst the climbers, two Costa Coffee team members chose to take the challenge to the next level by completing a 500-mile bike ride, in-between scaling the three peaks.
Victoria Moorhouse, who is Head of Sustainability and Wesley Brown, Regional Operational Director for the South-East, started the epic 500-mile journey at the base of Ben Nevis, before a demanding two-day cycle, through Glasgow and Gretna to Scafell Pike. The last leg saw the duo cycle through Wigan and Llanberis, before the final climb up Snowdon.
“We set ourselves the target of completing this difficult challenge in under seven days, which saw us complete a demanding 500 miles” explained Victoria “We are so proud to have completed this journey and raise money for The Costa Foundation – now we’re looking forward to relaxing with a cup of coffee.”
The annual Costa 3 Peaks challenge event took place between Friday 28 June – Sunday 30 June 2019.
