BOGOTA, Colombia – The process to select the best coffees produced in Colombia under The Cup of Excellence 2015 officially started today, when 343 coffee lots were received to participate in the competition.
The finalist will be announced on March 13th in Ibague, Tolima.
The Cup of Excellence competition is a strict high-level competition that follows the rules and standards of the Alliance for Coffee Excellence (ACE).
The competition in Colombia is jointly organized by ACE and the Colombian Coffee Growers Federation’s (FNC), under FNC´s value added and positioning strategy.
Through stringent cupping sessions, twelve domestic judges and one international judge will evaluate the lots.
A maximum of 90 and 60 lots will be selected in the first and second rounds, respectively. In order to move on to the next stage of the competition, lots must receive a score of 85 points or higher.
Subsequently, a panel of twenty-five international judges from Germany, Belgium, Canada, the United States and Taiwan, among others, will evaluate the selected lots. In this final stage, the best Colombian coffee lots will be chosen.
It is worth noting that selected lots are tasted at least five times throughout the competition.
The coffee lots with the highest scores will participate in an online auction on April 29th. For 24 hours, buyers from around the globe will have the chance to bid on the top Colombian coffees in 2015.
