David Veal, Executive Ambassador of the Speciality Coffee Association, will be giving a keynote presentation on “The Changing Speciality Coffee Culture in the UK” at this year’s Tea & Coffee World Cup (3-5 September 2018).
The following topics will be covered:
– An introduction to the SCA and coffee markets
– Definitions of speciality coffee
– The history of the British coffee market
– London – World’s coffee capital?
– Trends and innovations past & future.
David has spent most of his career working in the coffee industry, with brands such as Rombouts, Douwe Egbert and Lavazza, and running his own distribution company in the UK for 18 years.
During that time, he was Chairman of the Beverage Standards Association, and helped organise and judge the UK barista competitions for SCAE, and then after selling his business he became Executive Director of Speciality Coffee Association of Europe, a post which he has held for seven years.
An Executive Ambassador of SCA
Since the merger with Specialty Coffee Association of America into SCA David has also been acting as Executive Ambassador for the new association working with the partners, and is currently responsible for engagement in Africa, coordinating several projects in Rwanda, including the purchase of land for a women’s cooperative with IWCA, and a project in Nyere Province in Kenya with Grounds for Health, as well as organising field trips for coffee professionals to producing countries.
David will be speaking at Tea & Coffee World Cup in the conference area on Tuesday 4 September.
