DUBAI, UAE – Authorities have banned a weight-loss brand of coffee in Dubai for endangering the public’s health and safety.
On its official Facebook page, Dubai Municipality alerted residents that Idol Slim Coffee is no longer available in the market, and that the product’s import, sale and circulation has been banned.
The weight-loss product was manufactured in Thailand, according to the municipality’s product subscription, and was removed from shelves because it contained Sibutramine.
Sibutramine was banned from the international market in 2010 after studies showed that it may pose unnecessary cardiovascular risks to patients.
According to the US Food and Drug Administration, the product was globally launched in November 1997 and was used for weight loss and the maintenance of weight loss in patients with a high body mass index.
