MILAN, Italy – HostMilano has always been about much more than business and product innovation. It is also a place of training, professional and, yes, even entertainment. Hundreds of events are scheduled across all its sectors: bars, pastry, ice cream, catering, tableware and furnishings.
The halls of the Fieramilano Rho trade fair are where the future of Ho.Re.Ca goes on show, with presentations at exhibitors’ stands and show-cooking presentations by star-rated chefs, creations by patissiers and cake designers, and displays by leading baristas and bartenders.
Not to mention all the in-depth market analysis to be had.
The HostMilano 2019 calendar is still being finalised, but we already have a broad picture of what will be happening.
First of all the competitions. These include the eagerly anticipated 2019 edition of the Cake Designers World Championship and the World Trophy of Pastry, Ice Cream and Chocolate, both organised by the International Pastry, Ice Cream and Chocolate Federation (FIPGC). They are being held at Host Fiera Milano for the third time, on 19-20 October and 21-22 October 2019 respectively.
Also confirmed is the 6th Italian Coffee Grand Prix run by the Italian Master Coffee Makers Academy (AICAF) and the association of Lombard Coffee Roasters, Importers and Food Wholesalers (ALTOGA).
This is a celebration of the Italian coffee-drinking tradition that puts the spotlight on the barista and on espresso-based products, as well as promoting Italian food and drink more generally. The final will take place on 19 and 20 October 2019. The selection process has already begun and will continue to be held in various Italian cities in the early part of 2019.
And on 21 and 22 October, the European Pizza Championships will be held. The two-yearly event, organised by Pizza e Pasta Italiana and Scuola Italiana Pizzaioli, brings together pizza makers from all over Europe, who will compete over two days to produce the best version of this quintessentially Italian food.
The APCI area, for the Professional Association of Italian Chefs, will once again offer a place to discover, analyse and teach new cookery and baking trends, with some leading catering professionals in attendance, including the National #APCI Chef Italia Team, who will put on show-cooking demonstrations, hold challenges and run seminars. In 2019 the large-scale retail trade will be at the centre of the debate with the question: “Where is Catering Going Today?”
Innovation: this has always been the beating heart of HostMilano since it first started 40 editions ago. And just to underline that point, there will be another Smart Label initiative, rewarding innovation in the hospitality sector, promoted by HOST–Fiera Milano in collaboration with POLI.design and sponsored by Italy’s Industrial Design Association (ADI). The label will be awarded to products, services and designs that display distinctive characteristics in terms of functionality, technology, or environmental, ethical or social responsibility.
Architects and designers will find out what are the hot topics for the future of a profession that needs to take up the ongoing challenges of today’s world at Design Talks, organised by HOST and POLI.design: seven seminars under the scientific direction of Francesco Scullica, with coordination by architects Gianpietro Sacchi and Alberto Zanetta. An invaluable opportunity for professional development.
With a demonstration prototype of around 300 square metres, “Hospitality: Back to the Futur(ism)” will give concrete form to the research carried out by Comufficio, DA.RI srl, in collaboration with the Mussapi architecture practice and a group of manufacturing, distribution and service companies. An inexpensive project for a place in which to escape cold hyper-modernity, without giving up on innovation and technology, or even eco-sustainability.
