MILAN, Italy – On Monday October 26, director, American set designer and producer Francis Ford Coppola visited Expo Milano 2015. Accompanied by Giuseppe Sala, Sole Commissioner of the Government for Expo Milano 2015 and Andrea Illy, President and CEO of Illycaffè, the star from the US made his way to the Coffee Cluster, where he had the chance to taste a coffee made using the Illy Personal Blender, a machine that enables the user to select a personalized blend of coffee by selecting the Country of origin and taste profile.
A life dedicated to cinema d’auteur, with a strong connection to Italy
This evening, Francis Ford Coppola will meet the people of Milan at an event that is part of the “Expo in città” program, during which he will describe his story, his family’s roots and his vision as an innovator and man of culture who has succeeded in bringing new value to his family’s country of origin.
Indeed, Coppola has strong connections with Italy and with Basilicata in particular, given that his grandfather emigrated from Bernalda in the early 1900s.
Winner of five Oscars, he is famous for having made films that have become household names for entire generations: The Godfather trilogy, Apocalypse Now and The Conversation are some of the stories he has made which have helped to define the great American cinema of today.
In addition to directing wonderful films, Coppola has also launched and developed the careers of many talented actors, such as George Lucas, Al Pacino, Robert De Niro, Harrison Ford, Diana Keaton and Diana Lane, and he founded the film studio America Zoetrope, which has earned him 70 Oscar nominations and 16 Oscars.
