Delicious encounters and aromatic explorations to discover the mysteries of cocoa, a journey to find out more about the supply chain for coffee and for organic bananas, and a conference to award the “Sustainability Oscars”.

There are still another six events organized by Fairtrade planned between now and October 7 in Expo Milano 2015.

The recurrent focus in every event is the quality of raw materials and the awareness of supply chain sustainability, guaranteed by the Fairtrade international certification brand.

The encounters lead up to, and introduce, Fairtrade Day, which will be celebrated on October 14 and will involve agricultural producers from all over the world.

Irresistible chocolate: pleasurable and sustainable

The encounters began on Friday September 18 in the Cocoa and Chocolate Cluster with conjuring tricks by Carlo Cicala. The show wasinspired by a video shot in Peru in the plantation of the Acopagro Cooperative, where the Fairtrade fine organic Trinitario cocoa is produced and used to make Otto Chocolate bars. On September 21, also in the Cluster’s Area Theater, at 19:00, the five Otto Chocolate recipes were used by chef Matteo Losio to create original tasting experiences, both sweet and savory.

Knowledge: the key to future expenditure

On September 27, at 15:00 in Cascina Triulza, the subject of “Value in the food chain and young people’s sustainable ideas” will be discussed during a conference organized by Next in partnership with Fairtrade Italia, with protagonists and representatives of social companies, cooperatives, researchers, students, associations and consumers.

During the afternoon, the youthful winners of “The Sustainability Oscars” will be awarded their prizes. The “Journey around Food”, exploring the supply and production chain for food, will be continued on September 30 at 19:00 in the Future Food District, in collaboration with Coop Italia, with an examination of the production supply chain for bananas included in the Fairtrade-certified Solidal Coop line imported by OrganicSur.

On October, the attention will shift to coffee from Nicaragua, in the company Vladimiro Adelmi, Brand Manager of the Solidal Coop line, and Francisco Ramon Rivera Gonzalez, President of the Pantasma Coffee Producers Cooperative.

A journey among perfumes

The Cocoa and Chocolate Cluster becomes the setting for a unique experience: on October 4, Caterina Roncati, a professional perfume-creator, and Elisa De Falco, Master of Food and Sommelier, will accompany the public in a perfume-journey to identify the various aromatic subtleties that distinguish different kinds of high quality Fairtrade Chocolates.

And finally, on October 7 at 12 noon, a stage show will be performed illustrating tales and scientific experiments on the origin of cocoa and its uses, staged by the Fucina delle Scienze.
