VERONA, Italy – Hotelex, in Shanghai, recently came to an end and the brothers from Garage Coffee Bros were some of the protagonists of the Micro Roasters in the “Shanghai Coffee Festival” (within Hotelex), where they brought the authenticity of the “Made in Italy” handcrafted coffee.
It’s been only a few days since the end of Hotelex 2019 and it’s time to draw conclusions of this new experience in which we had a booth of the Roasters Village within “Shanghai Coffee Festival”, during one of the biggest and most important Asian fairs.
“It was really amazing to see how much the Chinese Coffee Community has grown compared to just two years ago” says Davide Cobelli, “I had been to Hotelex in 2017 for the World Latte Art and Coffee in Good Spirits Championships, at that time I already noticed a special focus on quality and the Specialty Coffee as a movement was already noticeable. I came back today and saw that almost half of the Coffee area (5 pavilions!) is serving Specialty Coffee from all over the world, it was really surprising for me!”.
Coffee, therefore, has a flourishing future ahead in China, where all the coffee companies are investing heavily and where millions of users could actually become a new market for coffee consumption.
Cobelli comments: “I was in China for the first time in 2012, there I met people from all over Asia during an international competition. Since then everything has changed, an astounding market is evolving and quality coffee MUST be leading this phase. In this edition of Hotelex, we have been literally assaulted by people looking forward to tasting our coffee.
They were observant and curious people, they weren’t uninformed at all. I was impressed by their knowledge of the high-quality coffee world. All baristas were very aware of the raw materials we were offering them, the extraction method and the quality of the execution. Basically, there was no room for improvisation!”.
There is indeed plenty of room for the Italian Handcraft high-quality Coffee out there in China; even large companies must be interested in this market segment, which should not be overlooked, but pursued instead together with the proper partners.
