JAKARTA, Indonesia – Gayo Arabica coffee has officially been recognized by the European Union (EU) as a trademark following the issuance of the coffee’s collective trademark registration certificate.
The certificate issued by the Office for Harmonization in the Internal Market was given to Central Aceh Regent Nasaruddin by the Law and Human Rights Ministry’s acting directorate general of intellectual property, Aidir Amin Daud, in Jakarta on Wednesday, in accordance with the 2017 World Intellectual Property Day.
“We have actually received the copy of the registration certificate; this is only the official accord from the ministry,” said Central Aceh Public Relations division head Mustafa Kamal as quoted by tempo.co.
Mustafa added that following the registration, the next step would be waiting for the issuance of geographical indication certificate for the Gayo Arabica Coffee.
