GLASGOW, UK – Famous Canadian coffee chain Tim Hortons is to open its first UK branch in Glasgow. The coffee and bakery chain – which is popular across the North American country – has confirmed the city will be home to its flagship store. But the firm was remaining tight-lipped about the location, saying details will be revealed next week.

Tim Hortons has already been advertising for staff for the city centre location.

It currently has nearly 4600 cafe and bake shops in nine countries around the world.

Some 4500 of these are in Canada and the firm claims 60 per cent of all Canadians visit a Tim Hortons at least once a week.

Tim Hortons announced in September last year it would be expanding into the United Kingdom, with an unannounced number of locations to be built.

Fans of the 50-year-old chain have been sharing their excitement at the news online.

Restaurant Brands International, which also owns Burger King, said the UK openings would be part of a worldwide expansion plan.

The chain bought the firm two years ago.

Glasgow will be the first British branch before the chain is rolled out across England and Wales.

The job advert for Team Members said: “As a Team Member at Tim Hortons, your top priority is guest satisfaction.

“Whether you are the very first person our guests encounter, or produce the best loved bakery items that our guests come to enjoy, you will have the opportunity to deliver and create exceptional guest experiences.”

The advert is now closed.

Tim Hortons is famous for timbits (doughnut holes) and its double, double coffee (two creams, two sugars) and doughnuts.

It was founded in 1964 in Hamilton, Ontario, by Canadian hockey player Tim Horton.
