MEDELLIN, Colombia – Tierra Cafetera has announced that their Chief Operating Officer, Roger Roland has been promoted to Chief Executive Officer.

Tierra Cafetera is the property manager for Cima Coffee Farms, managing daily operations from the tenant farmer to the coffee pickers.

Tierra Cafetera incorporates science and technology to further improve the yield and quality of specialty coffee produced at Cima’s coffee farms.

“Roger Roland has been with us since the inception of the company and his sustained performance has exemplified our company motto of ‘Ethical Behavior, Outstanding Execution.’

It made sense for him to step into this role as Chief Executive Officer, as we are expanding operations into other countries, with a focus on both real estate and coffee sales,” said James Cummiskey, Managing Director of Cima Coffee Farms.

In his new position as Chief Executive Officer, Roland will spearhead Tierra Cafetera’s “Reasonable Diversity” initiative by identifying and purchasing other coffee farms in countries like Panama, Ecuador and Nicaragua. Roland will oversee quality control throughout the supply chain, which dictates when and where varietals are planted, what coffee cherries are picked, processed, dried, packaged and exported.

“It is exciting to transition into the role of Chief Executive Officer at Tierra Cafetera. Within this position, I will have the opportunity to make an impact on the returns both our investors and farmers see through our property management and quality control processes,” said Roland.

“It’s rewarding to know that through our socially sustainable program 20 percent of gross profit margins are used to provide the farmer with a better life.”

Roland is also the Chief Operating Officer of Sustainable Investments, an incubator for Latin America businesses that provides a direct channel for diversified and high return foreign investments.

Additionally, Roland is the Chief Operating Officer for Cima Coffee Farms, and Coffee LatinAmerica (CLA), all headquartered in Colombia. Cima Coffee Farms is a coffee real estate company that sells Latin American coffee farms. Tierra Cafetera improves the yield and quality of Cima farms to produce and sell in the specialty coffee market.

CLA manages the integration of science and technology for the Tierra Cafetera business. CLA also transports, mills, exports, imports, warehouses, distributes, and sells the Tierra Cafetera coffees in both green and roasted forms.
