The winners who recevied the scholarship are Jeff Garon, Joane Innez Marianti and Eric Penders, who were announced during the World of Coffee in Dubai in January, will receive a financial contribution to cover their travel expenses and the Coffee Sustainability Foundation certification issued by SCA. Sustainability training does not end there. MILAN, Italy – Gruppo Cimbali, an Italian company that is one of the world’s leading manufacturers of professional espresso machines, together with its MUMAC Academy training centre, promotes coffee culture and sustainability across the entire supply chain through initiatives focused on industry players.

The scholarships by Gruppo Cimbali

In November, Gruppo Cimbali, as part of an initiative launched at the Coffee Technicians Guild Summit, offered three study grants for free participation in a three-day course on fully-automatic machines, grinding and sustainability.

Winners Jeff Garon, Joane Innez Marianti and Eric Penders, who were announced during the World of Coffee in Dubai in January, will receive a financial contribution to cover their travel expenses and the Coffee Sustainability Foundation certification issued by SCA.

Sustainability training does not end there. Gruppo Cimbali, which sponsored the finals of the Italian Barista Championships, during the prize-giving ceremony on the stage of the Coffee Arena at Sigep 2023 in Rimini, awarded the first three prize-winners – Daniele Ricci, Matteo Pavoni and Arianna Peli – with a voucher for free participation in the Foundation module of the sustainability training course promoted by the Speciality Coffee Association, which will be held at MUMAC Academy.

MUMAC Academy, the first SCA Premier Training Campus in Italy with an in-house trainer certified to deliver the Coffee Sustainability Program, Angelo Sportelli, is therefore opening registration for the Coffee Sustainability Foundation SCA course scheduled for 2 and 3 March in the academy’s classrooms in Binasco (MI).

The training course

The training course explains and explores the topic of sustainability in the coffee world from an economic, social and environmental standpoint, offering a broad view of the value chain and the main challenges facing the sector.

The course is designed for anyone connected to the coffee world, for those who have been working in this field for a long time and those who are new to it, whether professional or not, such as baristas, small farmers, large producers, salespeople, green coffee buyers, shop owners, roasters, traders, technicians, and NGO workers.

Climate change, coffee plantation agronomy, price fluctuations, working conditions on coffee farms, certifications and the importance of research and development in the sector are just some of the topics covered during the course, which aims to convey a simple message: sustainability in coffee is a unique challenge that is certainly complex, but not impossible. This course provides all the basics and the right approach to successfully meet this challenge.
