MILAN – The wheels of the “HOSThinking, a Design Award” machine have been set in motion once again.

The second edition of the international competition run by HOST-Fiera Milano and POLI.design (the Milan Polytechnic consortium), is intended as an award that recognises the best ideas in terms of new hospitality formats.

This year, all designers, architects and professionals from around the world (and also those employed in the in-house design divisions of companies) wishing to take part have been set the challenge of coming up with a service that involves a new experience and greater involvement on the part of consumers, as well as establishing new types of use based on developments in consumer trends, as well as presenting a complete and feasible scenario in terms of services, products offered, graphic design, spaces and installations.

The concepts are required to successfully combine service and experience, products offered and space/container in a way that presents a complete, coherent design project.

The objective is to be among the 15 ideas selected by a panel of experts from academic and professional circles. Scale models of the chosen designs and the associated explanatory charts will be given maximum visibility since they will be exhibited in a dedicated area of Host 2015.

The International Hospitality Exhibition will also be the setting for a special event at which the three finalists and the eventual winning design will be announced.

Total prize money of 7,000 euros will be awarded. All those wishing to take part must submit their individual or group applications by 30 March 2015.

Actual entries, meanwhile, must be submitted by 30 April 2015. 180 applications were submitted for the first edition of the initiative, with 71 designs presented, of which 18 were exhibited at HOST 2013.

Organized by Fiera Milano, Host 2015, the 39th edition of the International Hospitality Exhibition will be held from 23 to 27 October 2015 in Milan.

Host 2015’s visibility will be further enhanced by the timing of the event – which will overlap with the Universal Exposition running from 1 May to 31 October and only a very short distance away.

More than 20 million visitors will be flocking to Milan from every corner of the world to attend an event that will focus the attention of governments, institutions and consumers on Expo 2015’s theme: “Feeding the planet, energy for life”.
