Hungarian start-up wants to turn coffee grounds into climate friendly makeup

Hungarian start-up Zero Natural Cosmetics entered our ClimateLaunchpad contest with the idea to recycle coffee grounds into cosmetics. When you take the time to have a look at the labels of cosmetic products you regularly use you might find some ingredients could be harming your body — as well as the climate.

With the current push for a ban of microbeads in cosmetics, sustainable and environmentally-friendly cosmetics is a hot topic.

Zero uses zero artificial ingredients and creates its products with coffee grounds, essential oils and other safe, valuable ingredients.

Climate-KIC’s #JourneyToParis campaign makes a virtual stop in Hungary this week (23 – 29 November), as part of the journey to the UN climate change summit COP21 in Paris. For more items in this series visit the #JourneyToParis page.

Fair Trade

They are all about sustainability: Zero supports the Fair Trade social initiative by giving back to the marginalised producers and workers in developing countries, offering better trading conditions.

The three entrepreneurs behind Zero Natural Cosmetics came second in the Hungary national finals of ClimateLaunchpad and went to the European finals in September to pitch their make-up kits.
