MILAN — The Brazilian Institute of Geography and Statistics (IBGE) raised on Tuesday its estimate for the country’s 2018/19 coffee crop to a record 59.6 million bags of 60 kg. This is a 1.7 percent increase in relation to the previous month, mainly due to a revaluation of the harvest in Minas Gerais, the main producing State of the Arabica variety.
Brazil’s arabica production was estimated at 44.8 million bags, an increase of 2.5 percent over the previous month, after a 3.5 percent increase in the total harvested in Minas Gerais.
In relation to the previous year, the Arabica coffee production increased by 28.2 percent.
“The excellent harvest was due to the positive biennium, the rainier climate in the main producing regions and the largest investments in cultural dealings made by producers,” IBGE said in a statement.
