MILAN – World coffee exports amounted to 9.62 million bags in May 2014, down 5.56% from 10.19 million bags in May 2013.
According to ICO’s monthly trade statistics, only Brazilian Naturals rose significantly (+11%) compared with the same month last year, while Robusta (-15.8%), Other Milds (-6%) and even Colombian Milds (-5.8%) showed lower shipments than in May 2013.
Exports in first eight months of coffee year 2013/14 (Oct/13 to May/14) fell by 3.9% in comparison with the first eight months of the previous coffee year.
Shipments of Colombian Milds rose 23.4% to 8.331.416 bags. Exports of Other Milds and Robustas dropped by 10.5% and 9.1% respectively. Sales of Brazilian Naturals were marginally down (-0.6%).
Looking to the world’s biggest producers, Brazil (+7.6%) and Colombia (+29.3%) reported a strong increase in exports during the period. Shipments from Vietnam inched lower (-2.7%), while Indonesia reported a strong fall in export (-42.5%).
In the twelve months ending May 2014, exports of Arabica were of 68.90 million bags compared to 69.13 million bags last year; whereas Robusta exports amounted to 39.98 million bags compared to 43.05 million bags bringing to a total of 108.88 million bags.
Shipments of Colombian Milds rose by 25%, or 2.35 million bags to 11.76 million bags. Brazilian Naturals were slightly up (+0.7%); exports of Other Milds and Robustas were 10.4% and 7.1% lower respectively.
