FLORENCE, Italy — illycaffè has announced its partnership with Palazzo Strozzi, in Florence during the exhibition The Cleaner dedicated to Marina Abramović, that will run from 21 September 2018 to 20 January 2019.
Curated by Arturo Galansino, Lena Essling, Tine Colstrup and Susanne Kleine, the exhibition is an extraordinary retrospective bringing together more than 100 works by the famous artist created between the 1970s and the 2000s. It is a partnership that confirms illy’s role in the world of contemporary art.
illycaffè Creative Director Carlo Bach, said: “We are particularly pleased to support the ‘Marina Abramović, The Cleaner’ exhibition due to the deep relationship of esteem and friendship that binds us to this extraordinary artist. We could not miss the opportunity of the exhibition in Italy where Marina offers an overview of the most famous works of her career.”
The partnership between illy and Marina Abramović began in 2002 with the creation of Spirit Cup, which was the single illy Art Collection in gold and porcelain, produced in special packaging and in a limited edition.
Following this first collaboration there was the launch of the collection that bears her name and portrays her while she enjoys herself on the beach. Furthermore in 2007, on the occasion of Marina Abramovic 60th birthday, illy has produced ‘The Sixty’ mug. Recently, Abramović created the Manifesto Arte di Barcolana50 (the world’s largest regatta held in the Gulf of Trieste), a creative project supported by illycaffè that every year involves a different artist.
The exhibition support is not simply a token presence in museums and places of art for illycaffè. It is a real affinity, based on the DNA of a company that sees itself as a real cultural operator. It does this through illy Art Collection and numerous activities promoted and carried out in the visual arts world.
The striving towards perfection, passion for beauty and the well-made have pushed the company to amplify coffee’s sensory pleasure given by involving the sight and intellect, through art.
illycaffè actively contributes to the enhancement and promotion of contemporary art, working alongside established and emerging artists. It creates events such as Galleria illy (illy Gallery), supports major international events, such as the Venice Biennale, and the most important fairs, such as Artissima and ARCO Madrid.
