TRIESTE, Italy – illycaffè has opened its second directly managed store in its hometown, Trieste. After a first store opened in 2011, the company opens the doors of the illy bar to the public. A café located in the center of the city, spread over 305 square meters divided between the ground floor of the historic Palazzo Berlam and the outdoor area overlooking the Grand Canal and the city banks.
The iconic elements of the illy identity, blend with the historical ones of the venue, expertly recovered to return to the city an important moment of its past, enhanced in a contemporary key.
The concept of the bar reflects the core values of illy – Good, Goodness and Beauty – which are revealed through the elegance of the design, the reference to the art and the beauty of the mosaic depicting the first illy brand designed in 1934 by the graphic designer Xanti Schawinsky, the chandellier of cups signed by the great masters of contemporary art, as well as with the great attention to the world of coffee that is breathed throughout the place.
To these elements is added the recovery of the deco features of the historical furnishings, already present in the historic bar inside the Berlam building, such as the wooden back counter arch with inglesina, the decorated glass and the mirror mosaic, the counter and the wooden paneling with hand-decorated majolica from the second half of the 1920s.
The recovery and integration of the furnishings was possible thanks to an accurate research on materials carried out in collaboration with Generali in a project shared with the Archaeological, Fine Arts and Landscape Superintendence of Friuli Venezia Giulia, also making use of highly specialized craftsmanship skills, for the realization of a unique concept.

And we do it at a time when people are returning to go out and frequent bars and restaurants, sending a signal of positivity and a newfound desire for sociability, confirming to the whole world of public establishments that this is really the time to leave “.
The new illy coffee offers a rich and diversified offer designed for every moment of the day: from the early hours of the morning it is possible to taste the aroma of the only illy blend, in the Classic, Intense and Strong roasts, and small pastries, for lunch an original proposal of varied salads, gourmet focaccia and first courses is available, in the evening the outdoor area is the ideal space to relax with an offer of cocktails for an aperitif.
Inside the restaurant it will also be possible to taste exclusively some proposals available only in illy retail concepts, such as the Arabica coffees finalists of the latest edition of the Ernesto Illy International Coffee Award or the most recent seasonal recipes.
The large terrace can be used for drinks comfortably served at the table and is the ideal space to organize special events, as soon as the situation linked to the pandemic will allow it.
