MILAN – World coffee exports rose 2.6% in June to 10.454 million bags according to ICO’s monthly statistics. Shipments of Arabica declined slightly (+0.4%), with improved volumes for Brazilian Naturals and Colombian Milds and lower volumes of Other Milds, whilst Robusta shipments surged by 7.9% to almost 4 million bags.
Brazil’s exports were up on year by 16.5% and Vietnam’s exports rose a whopping 34.1%. Shipments from Colombia and Honduras fell by 3% and 6.9% respectively. Indonesian exports fell sharply (-65.4%) to multi-year lows.
Exports in the first 9 months of coffee year 2017/18 (Oct/17 to Jun/18) increased by 0.3% to 90.86 million bags compared to 90.55 million bags in the same period in the last coffee year.
Arabica exports saw a 1.5% decline on year to 57 million bags. Exports of Other Milds grew by 3.1%, while Brazilian Naturals and Colombian Milds were down by 3.1% and 6.1% respectively.
Shipments from Brazil saw a 5.7% decline on year. Coffee exports from Vietnam were 3.5 million bags higher (19.4%) to almost 22 million bags.
Lower exports were also reported by Colombia (-6.7%), Honduras (-1.7%) and especially Indonesia (-32.6%). With a 9.8% increase on year India ranks as the second Asian exporter with shipments surpassing 5.1 million bags.
Exports of Guatemala and Nicaragua were on the rise, while those from Peru were unchanged. Volumes from Uganda, Africa’s largest exporter of the commodity, declined 2.7%, while Ethiopia and Côte Ivoire were both on the rise.
In the twelve months ending June 2018, exports of Arabica totalled 75.08 million bags compared to 75.46 million bags last year; whereas Robusta exports amounted to 44.55 million bags compared to 44.05 million bags.
