MILAN – An Indian company has rolled out a smartphone that costs what many of us pay for our morning coffee. Domestic handset maker, Ringing Bells is all set to launch India’s most affordable smartphone, ‘Freedom 251′ for just Rs 251, about US$3.7 – more or less the price of Starbucks Grande Latte.

The company says its mission is to give citizens in rural and semi-urban areas access to digital technology.

Such parts of India have a population of half a billion people.

The smartphone will sport a 4 inch (10.2 cms) qHD IPS display and run on Android Lollipop 5.1 and 1.3 GHz Quadcore Processor.

It comes with a 1450 mAh battery and 3.2 MP AF rear camera and 0.3 MP front camera. On the memory front the phone will have 1GB RAM and 8GB internal memory.

The memory is expandable up to 32GB using SD card. Ringing Bells have 650 service centres across the country.

Ringing Bells have claimed that Freedom 251 is a result of Make In India campaign of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

The company believes that the new phone will change the connectivity system in the country and bring a revolution in way phones are used.
