Indonesian coffees sold out in the Usa

JAKARTA – Some 392 containers of Indonesian coffees were sold out in Specialty Coffee Association of America (SCAA) Expo 2016 in Atlanta, Georgia, the United States, last week. The transaction figure was US$35 million (around Rp460.95 billion).

The total figure came from transactions during the expo, in the MoU, and auction results. “The transactions are expected to continue to rise over the next few months,” Director General for National Export Development (PEN) of the Trade Ministry Nus Nuzulia Ishak said yesterday, April 18, 2016.

The coffee auction were held in Indonesian Pavilion. The event has grabbed the attention of a wide range of coffee industry players in the U.S., such as importers, roasters, baristas, the media, and other coffee specialty communities.

Indonesian Embassy’s Commercial Attaché in Washington DC, Reza Pahlevi Chairul, said the coffee auction has booked US$11,900 transaction (roughly Rp160 million). “Some 17 specialty coffees being auctioned were sold out in only three hours,” Reza said.
According to Reza, the best coffee being sold out in the auction was coffee from Puntang Mountain, West Java. The coffee auction was won by Phil Goodlayson of Corvus Coffee, Denver, with the highest bid of US$55 per kilogram or roughly Rp750,000 per kilogram. “It’s a new record of Indonesian coffee auction,” he said.

Seventeen specialty coffees being auctioned were Gunung Puntang, Mekar Wangi, Manggarai, Malabar Honey, Atu Lintang, Toraja Sapan, Bluemoon Organic, Gayo Organic, Java Cibeber, Kopi Catur Washed, West Java Pasundan Honey, Arabica Toraja, Flores Golewa, Redelong, Preanger Weninggalih, Flores Ende and Java Temanggung.
