MUNICH, Germany – It takes more these days than just a good idea to introduce a revolutionary new business solution into the highly competitive market of commercial coffee machines.
In close cooperation with Nestlé Professional, designaffairs analyzed the needs of all involved user groups and identified a new business model for the client: Nestlé Professional has become a full service provider offering a coffee solution embedded in a holistic ecosystem.
With the NESCAFÉ Milano 2.0, Nestlé Professional successfully takes one further step into the Internet of things – designaffairs has been responsible for the ideation, design and realization of the interaction concept as well as for the design of the machine- and configuration software.
The design consultancy also took over the role as strategic partner in the interdisciplinary team.
“It was a special challenge to bring all user groups together, direct and indirect, internal and external stakeholders, to find the best possible solution. The interaction between all partners of the project proved to be excellent”, says Andreas Rieger, Head of Software Engineering & Usability at designaffairs and responsible project manager.
The result of the close collaboration between Nestlé Professional, designaffairs and the engineering partner Helbling Technology disrupts the conventional coffee business with a key innovation
The connection of the NESCAFÉ Milano 2.0 to a cloud-based service allows one machine or even complete machine fleets to be configured and serviced remotely in real time. Full and quick service restaurants are being supplied world-wide with the highly innovative machine.
It lives up to the high requirements for constant delivery of premium quality coffee and flexibility, while reducing costs. Restaurants are now able to create coffee recipes according to their individual preferences or even launch seasonal campaigns.
As the touch-based user interface can be individually customized via an integrated content management system and provides various modes for operators, restaurant managers and technicians, the NESCAFÉ Milano 2.0 is tailored to all of the different stakeholders’ needs.
Via the internet, the machine is connected to the back office and provides automatically all relevant data for sales and marketing teams as well as the Nestlé Research & Development Center.
“Connectivity increasingly touches all spheres of life. The all-in-one solution of NESCAFÉ Milano 2.0 is the first step towards the management of Big Data and Datability in Nestlé Professional’s service portfolio”, explains Rieger.
