Growing consumer expenses ensure an optimal investment climate

HAMBURG – INTERNORGA has opened its gates at the Hamburg Trade Fair Centre and will be running until 19 March 2014. Hamburg, known as a capital for innovative gastronomy and hotel concepts, will once again become the site of the most important get-together for the hotel, gastronomy, catering, bakery and confectionery industries. This year, too, there is plenty of excitement: More than 1.200 exhibitors from 25 nations present their new products, trends and innovations. With the largest range and depth of products, INTERNORGA guarantees its visitors the best market overview and once more confirms its position as the leading trade fair for the entire away-from-home market.

“This year, the conditions for INTERNORGA are especially good,” Bernd Aufderheide, President and CEO at Hamburg Messe und Congress GmbH, is happy to report. This is with reference to current results from the CREST consumer panel of npdgroup deutschland GmbH, which state that the away-from-home market in Germany is experiencing a growth in consumer spending – for the fourth year in a row. In 2013, the Germans spent around 69.4 billion Euro in the gastronomy sector, which corresponds to an increase of 1.2 billion Euro (1.8 %) from the previous year. On average, each guest spent 6.05 Euro, 2.7 % more than in the previous year. Primarily due to the positive development in the second half of the year in 2013, the npdgroup deutschland GmbH for 2014 projects an additional rise in spending of 3 %.

Focus on trends As in previous years, the focus of INTERNORGA is on current trends and innovations. No other industry trade fair can count so many market leaders among its visitors, but small creative concepts are of course also present in the Hamburg Trade Fair Centre. “A leading trade fair always has to be surprising, anticipate trends and even create trends. We make a great effort to keep this lead position, and we regularly test INTERNORGA and develop new ideas and formats. Future-oriented concepts are an essential aspect,“ says Aufderheide. “It’s not for nothing that many products and trends embarked on a successful future in gastronomy and retail at INTERNORGA – for example the Smoothie or the Wrap.“ Maybe the curry sausage wrap, the spicy Franz roll on a stick, the pancake vending machine, snacks in the shape of insects or the fatless deep-fryer will become trends in the coming years. These are all highlights exhibited at INTERNORGA 2014.

Supporting programme with more highlights than ever This year’s premieres at INTERNORGA are especially eventful: The Trade Fair 2014 will feature the finals of the European pizza championship, the Wildbakers with their crazy baking show will show how creative baking can be, and in the new WINE WORLD, gastronomers can sit down with consultants, experts and 18 vintners to find the ideal wine for their personal gastro-concept. Of course, formats that were successfully introduced in the previous year such as the LiquID Bar, the Trendforum Pink Cube and the SKYWALK Table will return. In the LiquID Bar, professional visitors can get to know up-and-coming alcoholic trend beverages and their manufacturers and importers. In the Trendforum Pink Cube you can see the future of gastronomy take shape. On the SKYWALK Table, well-known exhibitors will show off crockery, glasses, cutlery and table linen in a spectacular setting.

But that’s not all: Professional visitors can also look forward to the Newcomers’ Area as well as exclusive events and parties. Top-class speakers such as Oliver Kahn, Tim Mälzer or celebrity chef Nelson Müller will appear in the context of the international food service forum, the German Congress for Catering or the INTERNORGA forum for school catering, promising an exciting convention programme. And for the fourth time in a row, the coveted INTERNORGA future prize will be awarded in the context of the trade fair.

About INTERNORGA: INTERNORGA has been the leading European trade fair for hotels, restaurants, institutional catering, bakery and confectionery ever since 1921. It is held in March every year, with more than 1,200 exhibitors from Germany and abroad displaying their innovations, trends and complete solutions for the whole of the out-of-home market. In addition to the exhibitors’ presentations, there is a big programme of supporting events, international conferences, award presentations, and innovative side-event concepts. INTERNORGA is traditionally held at the Hamburg Fair site, at the heart of Hamburg. Admission is subject to proof of trade visitor status. The admission charge is EUR 29.50 (or EUR 38 for a 2-day ticket); concessionary rate for trainees in the trade EUR 16.
