ISTANBUL, Turkey – The Istanbul Coffee Festival 2018 wrapped up yesterday at The Istanbul Küçük Çiftlik Park.
This year’s edition, which took place from Thursday to Sunday was organized under the main theme of “The Source, The Journey, The People,” during which seminars and this year’s SCA Turkish Coffee Championship were held.
The coffee festival is described as the second biggest of its kind across Europe. It must have attracted over 50,000 visitors this year, according to the organisers.
In the last five years, annual coffee consumption per person increased from 600 grams to 1.1 kilograms reports the Daily Sabah.
It is also one of the most rapidly growing retail sectors.
There are 61 coffee shop chains in Turkey, and 85 percent of them are local brands. While two of the eight international coffee brands are based in the U.S., the others are from South Africa, Australia, Germany, Finland, the U.K. and Austria.
