MADRID – illycaffè has always paid much attention to the discovery and promotion of young and emerging talent in contemporary art.
For this reason, illycaffè presents the seventh edition of illy SustainArt Prize at ARCOmadrid_2014 in order to spread the company’s approach to sustainable growth in the international art community, offering opportunities for visibility and exchange within the market of artists from emerging countries.
The illy SustainArt Prize aims to identify and recognize the work of an artist presents his work in the Solo Projects: Focus Latin America section, offering visibility and networking opportunities in the online platform www.illySustainArt.org.
Recognition consists of a cash prize of 15,000 Euros and the opportunity to submit a project for an illy Art Collection cup, the famous collection of espresso and cappuccino cups where, in the last twenty years, have expressed their creativity some of the most important representatives of international contemporary art, in addition to emerging talent.
The prize will be announced on Thursday February 20 at 16h in illy Sustain Art space (Hall 7), with the presence of Carlos Urroz, director of ARCO.
Jurors will Jesus Carrillo, Head of Cultural Programs of the Department of Public Affairs at Museo Nacional Centro de Arte Reina Sofía, João Fernandez, Assistant Director of Conservation, Research and Outreach at Museo Nacional Centro de Arte Reina Sofía and Carlo Bach, artistic director of illycaffè.
The illy SustainArt Prize was established in ARCOmadrid in 2008, recognizing in its first edition the young Brazilian artist Matheus Rocha Pitta. In its second edition, in 2009, the prize was awarded to Avinash Veeraraghavan, one of the emerging young talents from India.
The 2010 edition recognized the Mexican artist Camilo Ontiveros, and again in 2011 the prize was awarded to a Brazilian artist, the young Andre Komatsu.
In 2012 the award went to the Chilean artist Völuspá Jarpa, and in its last edition in 2013, was the artist couple Julia & Victor Costales Rometti who received the award for his art work “Anarquismo Mágico”.

The SustainArt illy Prize was founded in 2007 with the aim of deepening the dimension of illycaffè’s actions in the world of contemporary art and expand to the international art community, the company’s approach to sustainable business growth.
The core of the project is the digital platform www.illysustainArt.org, open to the world of contemporary art that wants to become a cultural meeting point of reference for the exchange of artists and curators from emerging countries.
In the digital platform, artists have the opportunity to show their work to a panel of art experts recognized internationally as Meskerem Assegued, Carlo Bach, Carlos Basualdo, Suman Gopinath, Gerardo Mosquera, Michelangelo Pistoletto, Mariangela Mendez Prencke and Angela Vettese.

The 21 galleries from the # SoloProjects program, selection done by Marcio Harum, Magali Arriola, Sharon Lerner and Tobias Ostrander, will present projects from Latin American artists specifically made for ARCO. All of them participate in the SustainArt illy prize
