HAMBURG, Germany – In the heart of Tanzania, about 900 km away from the capital city Dar es Salaam lies Songwa Estates, where German coffee grinder manufacturer Mahlkönig leases a farm with a total size of 59 hectares in close cooperation with the coffee roaster manufacturer Probat and espresso machine producer La Marzocco.
The mission of the Songwa project is to offer clients, employees and other members of the coffee industry a unique personal experience of growing, processing and marketing of green coffee. Because understanding coffee and begins right here: at its origin.
While people discover the origin of coffee they connect with the people growing it. Striving to improve their lives becomes a matter of course for everyone involved.
Which is why the local support of the people and fair working conditions have always been a vital part of the Songwa project ever since the very beginning. Mahlkönig and its partners continuously work on local social projects, e.g. advancing the access to clean drinking water or education material for children.
The big project for summer 2015 was to build up an entirely new school building for Muvwa Primary School. Volunteer Pau Valverde Molina from Barcelona took up the demanding challenge and within 3 months only the new building was ready to welcome its pupils.
Despite a few struggles with sourcing the required materials, Pau and the local workers did an amazingly great job.
The new building is one of many little steps towards a better future for the children of Songwa. Because education plays an important role concerning the development of a country.
More and well educated people will finally be able to move their country forward towards a positive future.
Mahlkönig, Probat and La Marzocco are proud to contribute to this development and will continue supporting their partners at Songwa Estates during the coming years.
