SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. — Italian coffee roaster Lavazza is no stranger to innovation, tackling its own ‘moonshot’ of bringing its “ISSpresso” capsule-based espresso coffee machine to space (developed in partnership with Argotec and the European Space Agency) as one of many ways it continues to innovate for today’s demanding consumer.

As innovation and technology are strategic enablers to Lavazza to execute its vision, it has selected SaaS-based supply chain planning solutions from JDA Software, Inc., to give it a powerful competitive edge as it revamps its global supply chain.

Established in 1895 in Turin, Lavazza currently operates in more than 90 countries and has more than 3,000 employees through subsidiaries and distributors.  Among the world’s most important roasters, it is estimated that more than 27 billion cups of Lavazza coffee are consumed worldwide every year. Lavazza operates in business segments that include at home, away-from-home and office coffee service, always with a focus on innovation in consumption technologies and systems.

Lavazza is a global player facing the challenges of operating on a worldwide scale with a strong focus on organic growth, globalization, brand strengthening, and further expansion of its operating margin and profitability. To support its vision and growth strategy, Lavazza has selected several JDA supply chain solutions including JDA® Enterprise Supply Planning and JDA® Sequencing to help it build one globally synchronized plan that senses and responses profitability and quickly to supply and demand volatility across the 90 countries in which it operates.

“Innovation and passion are qualities we inherited from our founder Luigi Lavazza, stemming from our 120-year history. We look at our business processes in a holistic way as an enabler to support our customers’ satisfaction and organic growth. Today, having a flexible and integrated supply chain is a must to achieve these goals and to be competitive,” said Patrizia Tedesco, Group CIO, Lavazza.

“We  choose JDA as a partner to support the innovation of our  production planning process for a number of reasons:  the breadth,  depth and agility  of their solution that can easily integrated in our ERP,  their strong expertise in the supply chain domain,  the strong references that JDA were able to share with us and the unique competences of the project management team that will support the implementation.”

Lavazza will deploy JDA in the cloud for an agile, complete and modular SaaS-based supply chain planning solution that will support its key production processes while helping them optimize constraints, margins and costs across production, distribution, inventory and procurement, all leading to improving service levels.

With JDA Enterprise Supply Planning, Lavazza can make real-time updates and optimize plans on demand, while JDA Sequencing will take their production scheduling to the next level by simultaneously balancing customer service, cost and utilization while respecting complex manufacturing constraints and rules.

“In order to remain competitive, organizations need to balance cost savings and profitability, while keeping pace with customer demands in real-time. A robust supply chain planning solution that weaves in innovation to address these requirements is key to helping digitally transform our customers’ supply chains,” said Johan Reventberg, president, EMEA, JDA.

“We look forward to working with Lavazza to connect their demand and supply signals in such a way that they can make the most actionable and profitable business decisions to deliver the utmost customer experience across all the markets in which they operate.”
